Fall on Ocracoke Island

by opsmuseum
The summer weather is finally gone for good and Fall is here. There has been a drop in humidity and temperatures in the 60's. The shelling is fabulous at this time of the year and we hear the fishing isn't bad either! It is a great time to book a vacation and come to visit us.

We have a couple of events happening this fall that we would love to see you here for. Tuesday November 6 is our annual Fall Meeting at 5:30 pm at the Ocracoke Community Center. This will be a potluck meal so bring a dish to share. We will present our Cultural Heritage Award for 2018 as well as announce the Historic Home Award. You can join OPS on this night or just come, enjoy the fellowship and see what OPS is all about. It will be a fun night! On Thursday, November 22, there will be a ceremony commemorating the 300th anniversary of the Battle of Ocracoke in which Lieutenant Robert Maynard and his men defeated the Pirate Blackbeard. The ceremony will be held at Springer's Point at 10 am with a proper English Tea to be held just after in the Berkeley Barn located adjacent to the Ocracoke Preservation Society Museum on Water Plant Road. All are invited! Of course, looking into December we have our annual Historic Homes Tour and our Wassail Party where we will draw the 2018 Quilt winner! Happy Fall Y'all from us here at the Ocracoke Preservation Society
