Janey moved to Ocracoke in 1995 after teaching for 31 years.  She became active in the OPS organization, first as a volunteer in the Gift Shop and then as a trustee on the Executive Committee.   Janey served as President of the organization from 1999 through 2001.  She has served on the Historic District Committee, plus other committees. Janey initiated and is continuing the process of cataloging the items in all of the museum collections on the computer.   She was re-elected president in 2006 and 2007.
